(WASHINGTON, DC – April 30, 2020) – I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mrs. Virginia Ali of Ben’s Chili Bowl. I sat with Washington, D.C. royalty up in the balcony at the Lincoln Theater with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ali, Marc Clarke, and Rondy Griffin.
Written by Dr. Lovall Long and Angelique Long, the play being performed was “The Giz”, a DC-flavored spin on “The Wiz” featuring the ever-favorite sounds of Go-go.
The dancers were spectacular and the actors and actresses brought the story to life in a most magnificent way. The audience was glued to their seats, including me.
I love the love I saw throughout the theater. Sure, I’m just visiting, but it sure felt wonderful to see the people enjoying themselves. More importantly, what I so enjoyed most was the cultural aspect. There was enough culture in the theater to fill up the rest of America.
And when I heard “Run, Joe! Run, Joe!” – it was a wrap!
Thank you, D.C., for a marvelous evening filled with plenty of laughter and lots of people doing what they love on stage. That’s powerful to me. Frankly, the youthful dancers were so dynamic … quite unforgettable.
Anyway, if you get the chance, get over to the Lincoln Theater and peep the Go-go musical today. It is worth it!
Special thanks to Rondy Griffin!
