BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport to Kick-Off Week-Long Summer Youth Program
Starting Monday, August 1, 50 Baltimore City students will participate in the sixth-annual Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport Summer Youth Initiative. 

50 Baltimore City Students to Learn About Career Opportunities in Aviation and Transportation

What:

Starting Monday, August 1, 50 Baltimore City students will participate in the sixth-annual Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport Summer Youth Initiative.  The students will spend a full week meeting with airport, transportation, and business leaders and participating in activities to learn about the wide-range of career opportunities in aviation.

Maryland Transportation Secretary Jim Ports and BWI Marshall Airport Executive Director Ricky Smith will host a kick-off event on Monday morning, August 1, to welcome the students and to highlight the program.

When:

Monday, August 1, 2022

Kick-off ceremony at 9:00 a.m.

Where:

BWI Marshall Airport art gallery space adjacent to D/E security checkpoint

Note:

On Monday, August 1, the students will meet with members of the BWI Marshall Airport Fire and Rescue Department at 10:00 a.m.  The students will see the airport’s fire department and live fire training facility.  On Monday afternoon, the students will see airport operations and maintenance employees with specialized vehicles and equipment.

On Wednesday, August 3, the students will meet at the Community College of Baltimore County in Catonsville for a day of aviation and environmental activities.  On Thursday, August 4, the students will meet with general aviation, military, and law enforcement leaders at Martin State Airport.

Throughout the week, the students will meet with other transportation leaders, including airline employees, federal aviation security leaders, state law enforcement personnel, business leaders, engineering firms, etc.
