(NORFOLK, Va. – August 8, 2022) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced the selections for the 2021 Preseason All-MEAC team Friday, July 29th. Morgan State University Senior Jae’Veyon Morton has been named to the All-MEAC First Team, which is voted on by the league’s coaches and sports information directors.

Morton is one of 25 players named to the Preseason All-MEAC First Team and is the lone representative for the Bears. No other Morgan players were named to any of the other teams.

Morton is coming off  2021 season in which he earned All-MEAC Second Team recognition. The Detroit native finished the season ranked T-No. 4 in the conference in passes defended (8) and No. 9 in tackles with 63, averaging 5.7 per game.  The junior also added an interception and a pair of tackles for loss on the season.

South Carolina State led all teams with seven First Team All-MEAC honorees. Howard followed with five First Team honorees, while Norfolk State, Delaware State and North Carolina Central each had four.

The Bears, under the direction of head coach Damon Wilson are predicted to finish sixth in the MEAC standings, according to the poll of the conference head coaches and sports information directors.

Norfolk State University running back J.J. Davis was selected as the MEAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while South Carolina State University defensive lineman Jeblonski Green was selected as Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

South Carolina State University has been picked to win the MEAC Football Championship as the Bulldogs topped the league’s annual preseason poll for 2022.

The 2022 edition of Morgan State’s Football program will begin when they travel to face Georgia Southern on Saturday, September 3. The Bears home-opener will be on Saturday, September 17 when they host Sacred Heart at Hughes Stadium.

The Bears will take on Norfolk State for Homecoming on Saturday, October 8 to open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action.
