James Britton Jr.: A True Class Act in Catering and Community
James Britton Jr., CEO of Class Act Catering, is a visionary entrepreneur who has dedicated his career to excellence in food service, job creation, and community impact. His journey began in 1991, when he launched a catering staffing agency, providing trained professionals to some of Baltimore’s top hospitality businesses. With a sharp business mind and a passion for service, James quickly expanded his vision beyond staffing—he set his sights on owning his own catering company. Within a year, he founded Class Act Catering, making his dream a reality.
As demand for his catering services grew, James recognized an opportunity to expand into the restaurant industry. He opened his first Class Act Café & Catering location in East Baltimore, serving the Johns Hopkins community and residents with high-quality food and hospitality. This success paved the way for a second Class Act Café in West Baltimore, bringing top-tier service to even more neighborhoods. Not stopping there, James launched Britton’s, a beloved fine dining restaurant known for its upscale cuisine and welcoming atmosphere.
His reputation for excellence caught the attention of major institutions, leading to one of his most prestigious opportunities: a partnership with the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, where he exclusively operated the museum’s café before becoming its official caterer. His ability to blend culinary expertise with cultural experiences made this partnership a standout achievement in his career.
But James’ impact extends far beyond business. Long before “re-entry programs” became widely recognized, he provided second chances to formerly incarcerated individuals, offering job placement, skill training, and mentorship through his staffing agency. At its peak, he employed over 200 individuals, many of whom found stable careers under his leadership. His unwavering commitment to uplifting underserved youth and marginalized communities has made him a pillar of Baltimore, deeply respected and admired.
Despite his many accomplishments, James remains grounded in his values as a husband, father of two daughters, and proud grandfather. His legacy is one of resilience, generosity, and excellence. A true class act, James Britton Jr. continues to inspire and uplift Baltimore—one meal, one opportunity, and one connection at a time.
