(BALTIMORE – December 13, 2025) – On an early December evening, the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Museum provided an inspiring backdrop as guests gathered to celebrate the 23rd Anniversary of BMORENews.com. The event drew supporters from across the region – from as far as DC (thank you, Beverly Smith of Momma’s Safe Haven), Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, and throughout Baltimore County. Liberty Road/Northwest Baltimore County remained well-represented with longtime supporters including Senator Ben Brooks and Councilman Julian Jones, who is poised to make history in June as the first Black person to hold the top seat. Senators Antonio Hayes and Cory McCray joined attendees from across Baltimore City, creating a powerful display of community solidarity.
The celebration welcomed new partners as well, including Mob The Block and The Name You Like, both Prince George’s County-based businesses that represent the fresh energy joining our mission.
A highlight of the evening was honoring the legendary 1973 National High School Basketball Championship Dunbar Poets. Led by the fearless voice of Timmy Greene, the champions – including Skip “Honey Dip” Wise – lined the staging area, their presence a sight to behold. These 70-year-young men remain champions both on and off the court. They put Baltimore basketball on the map by defeating DeMatha and Adrian Dantley, who acknowledged Skip as his toughest opponent. Wayne Frazier beamed with unmistakable pride as his son, Dr. Tim Frazier – a Baltimore Polytechnic Institute alumnus, veteran, and physician at Premier Medical – received recognition.
Peggy Morris, a steadfast supporter throughout BMORENews’ 23-year journey, brought her network, Sisters4Sisters Network, Inc. (S4SN). From our first awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., to the United Nations in New York City, to Atlanta and beyond, Peggy and S4SN have stood with us. Thank God for their unwavering support!
Youth Awardee Kyle Hooper, recognized through Elev8 Baltimore, absolutely captivated the crowd. Standing proudly with his parents, Kyle embodies what our young people can achieve with the right support. His presence shatters stereotypes and reminds us why investing in our youth matters. We’ve already taken steps to ensure his continued success.
Curator Kibibi Ajanku provided honorees with a beautiful setting featuring regional artwork, while Chef Rabbit’s Maryland Crab Soup disappeared quickly – hopefully you got some!
The evening celebrated cooperative economics in action. Nicole Kirby and her parents exemplified the teamwork necessary for progress, reminding us that Black Wall Street begins inside the home and flows outward. Georgia Goslee, Esquire‘s presence underscored that we stand on the shoulders of those who came before. As Phi Beta Sigma President Lafon Porter stated, we can accomplish anything when we work together – and family is at the core.
Kudos to John Rydell, my longtime colleague who always came to the community. Big ups to Bria Simms who serves the community. Bravo to Danielle Scott – especially for being an advocate for the formerly incarcerated, and bravo to my classmate in the DBA program at the Robert Smith School of Business at College Park, Sherida Santiago.
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the BMORENews 23rd Anniversary Benefit.
