Frederick Douglass Tunnel Program Demolition Activities

Frederick Douglass Tunnel Program | Amtrak

By Nikia Mack, Outreach Specialist, Frederick Douglass Tunnel Program

(BALTIMORE – September 30, 2024) – As a community leader in an area adjacent to Amtrak’s Frederick Douglass Tunnel Program, we want to share some information with you regarding the upcoming demolition of the 920 W. North Avenue property.

Weather permitting, we are scheduled to begin demolition of the structure on or about October 7, 2024, with a projected completion by month’s end. As we approach the date of demolition, site preparation work will continue, including placing dumpsters to assist with debris removal and removing a tree on the property.

These activities will take place on the property and are not anticipated to impact sidewalk access, although there may be an increase in truck traffic and minor adjustments to traffic patterns. The contractor will follow standard demolition procedures to mitigate any dust using water hoses, minimizing impact on the School. Please note that the property received final clearance for asbestos abatement in February 2024.

We have provided door hanger notifications to the residential properties nearest this work, will place signage on the fence surrounding the site, and have notified Principal Argiro at Dorothy I Height Elementary School. We encourage you to share information with community members about this work and direct any questions to our team at fdtunnel@amtrak.com or (443) 423-1115.
