Who is Deshauntia?
Deshauntia Benn is a New Orleans native with over 20 years of experience in education, labor organizing, and advocacy. She began her career as a high school Social Studies teacher and later transitioned into leadership roles focused on educator support, workplace culture, and policy change. Throughout her career, she has consistently demonstrated a commitment to creating environments where people feel heard, valued, and empowered.
Deshauntia spent many years leading organizing efforts in the education sector and served as the Racial and Social Justice Coordinator for a state-level educators’ association. In that role, she developed trainings, built coalitions, and led initiatives aimed at addressing systemic inequities within schools and workplaces. Her work centered on building awareness, shifting culture, and supporting sustainable change across organizations and communities.
After two decades in education and organizing, Deshauntia decided to step away from her role and pursue entrepreneurship full time. She is the owner of Dimensions Barber and Beauty Supply and Dimensions Consulting Firm. Through her beauty supply store, she provides products and services that center Black beauty, wellness, and culture. Through her consulting work, she supports organizations in developing equity-driven strategies, strengthening internal leadership, and building more inclusive and effective workplace cultures.
Deshauntia holds a Master of Science in Leadership and is currently a doctoral candidate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, where her research focuses on the relationship between organizational culture, employee experience, and leadership development.
In addition to her business and consulting work, Deshauntia is dedicated to helping others navigate the healing process. After the loss of her son, she began sharing her personal grief journey with other mothers and families dealing with similar pain. She continues to hold space for healing, growth, and purpose, whether through her businesses, her advocacy, or her everyday connections in the community.
