Charlyn Nater, Jacqui Cummings, Renny Bass, and Senator Cory McCray to Be Recognized December 4
(BALTIMORE – November 12, 2025) — BMORENews.com, celebrating 23 years as “the news before the news,” will honor four Baltimore leaders at its anniversary benefit on Thursday, December 4, at the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Museum.
Co-Women of the Year: Charlyn Nater and Jacqui Cummings
Charlyn Nater, Director of Baltimore Main Streets, strengthens the city’s commercial corridors while mentoring the next generation of young women leaders.
Jacqui Cummings owns five buildings on West 25th Street, coordinates the annual Black Wall Street Expo, runs the Notre Maison nonprofit, and counsels high school students—demonstrating that Black economic power comes through ownership and community building.
Co-Men of the Year: Renny Bass and Senator Cory McCray
Renny Bass founded KIOBA Network, a collective investment group where Black men pool monthly financial contributions into what is now $2 million in real estate assets. His model proves that cooperative economics and collective investment can scale Black wealth-building beyond what individuals can achieve alone.
Senator Cory McCray (45th District) brings his IBEW Local 24 union roots to the State Senate, where he leverages legislative power to advocate for working families and Northeast Baltimore communities. He also founded a political organization that has led to the election of several youthful advocates from the community.
“These four leaders show us that Black economic power is built through multiple strategies,” said Doni Glover, founder of BMORENews. “City systems, individual entrepreneurship, collective investment, and political advocacy. Charlyn strengthens corridors. Jacqui owns buildings. Renny mobilizes group investment. Cory wields legislative power. All four are essential.”
