Who is Barry?

Barry Simms | Award-Winning Investigative Journalist | WBAL-TV 11 News | Voice for the Voiceless

A proud Baltimore native and veteran journalist, Barry Simms has spent more than four decades delivering the news with integrity, clarity, and heart. Currently a general assignment reporter and I-Team member for WBAL-TV 11 News, Barry is known for his commitment to live, local, and late-breaking journalism that centers the stories of everyday people.

From his start as a weekend anchor in Rockford, Illinois, to major markets in Shreveport and Dallas, Barry has followed a steady path of excellence. He returned home to Baltimore in 1998, where he continues to shine as one of the city’s most trusted voices in news.

A graduate of Marquette University and an alumnus of St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, Barry has earned numerous honors from the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Louisiana State Bar Association, among others. He also served as president of the Association of Black Media Workers, the Baltimore chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Whether tracking storms or uncovering injustice, Barry’s work is rooted in a deep sense of duty: to listen, to uplift, and to ensure that every story is told with dignity.

Off camera, Barry is a devoted husband, father of three, and music lover who’s known to carry a tune as well as he carries a mic.

At Doni Glover 6.0, we are proud to honor Barry Simms for his decades of service, his journalistic integrity, and his unwavering voice for the people of Baltimore.
