American Visionary Art Museum Discharged Jenenne Whitfield

Jenenne Whitfield

(BALTIMORE 0 September 26, 2023) – Jenenne Whitfield was immediately discharged from her duties as Executive Director of the American Visionary Art Museum on September 19, 2023, and has issued the following statement:

“Over the past year, I dedicated myself to forging new paths and nurturing relationships in Baltimore and beyond on behalf of the American Visionary Art Museum. It was meaningful work that I take immense pride in. However, the significance and reality of this work extends far beyond the walls of any institution. In a world marked by rapid change, and uncertainty, true leadership demands vision and courage. It is not accomplished in isolation, rather it is a collaborative effort that involves and empowers the community. Today, I can confidently say that Baltimore is an extraordinarily vibrant cultural community that has wholeheartedly supported my mission to elevate AVAM. This unexpected turn of events is an opportunity for me to continue my journey of growth and service. There is so much work to be done. I’d like to thank all the staff and board members who supported and championed our work together. I wish each of you the best. I also want to express my deepest gratitude to the people in this city. Your encouragement fuels my determination to move forward with hope and inspiration.”

Whitfield says she has no immediate plans. “Now is the time for quiet reflection and recalibration.”

Whitfield is represented by Collins Legal Group.
