How to Pay for Home Repairs and Improvements
Need to fix up your home this year but don’t have the cash? There are several ways you can do it without draining that savings account.

Here’s how:

  1. Consider a cash-out refinance. You might be able to lower your interest rate in the process.
  2. Refinance with a 203(k) FHA loan. These allow you to finance up to $35,000 in repairs.
  3. Use your home equity. Home equity loans and HELOCs are great ways to cover improvement costs.
  4. Try a cash-back credit card. Use the cash rewards you earn to make a dent in that balance.

If you go the home equity route, you may qualify for additional tax deductions.

Time for Your Annual Credit Check
The New Year is in full swing. Want to make sure it’s a successful one? Then pull your annual credit report and set yourself up for financial health in 2022.

Make sure you:

  1. Look for any errors you find. Report them to the appropriate credit bureau to get them amended.
  2. Address any late, overdue, or in-collections accounts. These can seriously ding your credit score.
  3. Make sure you recognize everything. If there are accounts or loans you don’t recognize, you could be a victim of identity theft.

To get your free credit report, go to You can get one report from all three credit bureaus annually.

Smart Home Tech That Can Save You $$$
Want to save cash in 2022? The right smart home technology can help.

Here are just a few of the best money-saving options:

  • Smart thermostats – These systems learn your heating and cooling habits, and customize an automated schedule to reduce your energy usage.
  • Smart lights – Smart lighting systems are motion-sensored, so you’ll never waste energy lighting an occupied room again.
  • Smart water systems – These detect water leaks and can automatically shut down water flow if a pipe bursts or a leak is found.

There are also smart sprinkler systems, smart plugs, smart showerheads, and more. Using a combination of these may give you the biggest savings over time.
