Congressman Kweisi Mfume Update

November 18, 2021

Dear Friend:

Thank you for contacting my office. I value your insights because I rely on information, observations, and personal experiences from as many places as possible to guide my work on behalf of Maryland’s 7th Congressional District.

It’s hard to believe that we are eleven months into the 117th Congress. January 3, 2021, the date on which we were sworn into this Congress, seems like only a few days ago. Only a few weeks prior, the FDA authorized coronavirus vaccines for emergency use. Indeed, the initial coronavirus strain and COVID-19 pandemic were still in full throttle. The former president was contesting the November 2020 presidential election results, we were three days away from the January 6 violence at the U.S. Capitol which disrupted the process of ratifying the work of the Electoral College, and the balance of power in the U.S. Senate was undecided pending the outcome of two elections in Georgia. With that backdrop, the year got off to a historic start and the pace has not slowed.

I am struck by how much work is getting done by the U.S. House of Representatives to move us from where we were as a community on January 3rd to where we are today – the American Rescue Plan, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and the Build Back Better Act are some notable examples. We still have many roads to travel and navigate. However, I can proudly report the job of successfully moving us through this crisis in the best possible way is getting done.

I look forward to building on our progress and remain committed to creating an America where opportunity is equally available and abundant for all of those who call this nation home. Please feel free to subscribe to my newsletter for periodic updates.
