Hearings From Last Week…

Last week, I worked to end the state’s partnership with ICE and to amplify the voices of our immigrant communities by reintroducing House Bill 304 The MD TRUST ACT. I would like to thank all of our partners, representatives, and witnesses for giving their testimony. If you would like to watch the hearing, please click here.

Did you know that the World Health Organization states that 15.7% of people over the age of 60 years old are abused in some way and also indicated that this was an underestimation! I was honored to reintroduce House Bill 1269, Adult Protective Services – Vulnerable Adults Registry – Investigations and Records of Abuse and Neglect and Workgroup Study last week Thursday. This bill is to create a centralized database where the agents of social services and the state of Maryland report any wrongdoings they see such as abuse or neglect to ensure that adults are being protected in nursing homes, their own homes, or the custody of anyone. The bill also included creating a workgroup that would find the best practices for the vulnerable adult registry. If you would like to watch the hearing, please click here.
