Mayor Brandon M. Scott Releases Statement on Violent Day in Baltimore

“We will not allow violence to hold our neighborhoods hostage,
nor will we accept that the life of any Baltimorean is disposable.”

(BALTIMORE December 10, 2020) — Mayor Brandon M. Scott released the following statement regarding violence over the past day in Baltimore City:

“In the last twenty-four hours, we have lost four Baltimoreans to serious acts of violence. We cannot and will not allow this to become normalized. Last night I was on the scene of a non-fatal shooting where a 16-year-old was shot in the leg. We will not allow violence to hold our neighborhoods hostage, nor will we accept that the life of any Baltimorean is disposable.

Under my leadership, every single city agency will work in tandem to make Baltimore safer. Our Police Department will refocus on targeting those committing violent acts in our communities, while developing a strategy to focus on those illegally trafficking guns onto our streets.

From adopting comprehensive wraparound services for our young people, to fixing downed light poles quickly, my administration is taking an all-hands-on-deck approach to ending the epidemic of violence in Baltimore.”
