(BALTIMORE – November 18, 2020) – One thing that was rather disturbing in this recent Presidential election was the growing number of young Blacks who openly supported and voted for Donald Trump. This really brings into question the level of outreach of the Democratic Party. I haven’t figured it out yet. If you have, feel free to email your thoughts on this at doni@bmorenews.com. But for Black people of any age to vote for a flagrant narcissist who acts like slavery is still in effect is simply unforgiveable. Yet, it happened.

Truth be told, it seems as if Trump would have won had it not been for COVID. And that just gets under my skin – knowing that I live in a country with millions of people who would vote against their own interests – no matter what came out of Trump’s mouth. In my book, there is no way this election should have been close at all.

Beneath the surface, there is a dynamic shift underway and the Democratic Party had best pay attention. Clearly, the Biden-Harris administration is going to have to do more than a couple of line dances and give a little lip service to Blacks. Something is fundamentally awry, and the Democratic Party has to know that this current generation of young Blacks has repeatedly warned that they are not their grandfather’s generation. Many of these disillusioned young Blacks believe that their elders have failed them politically and that something has got to change. They are definitely not the kumbaya generation. Tamika Mallory has made that clear.

Nope! This is the “show me the money” generation. The Hill reported back in October that a growing number of young, Black men are in this group (Black male voters are tired of being taken for granted). What caught their attention was Trump’s $500 billion Platinum Plan. According to Trump’s campaign literature, “His plan will increase access to capital, fuel Black-owned businesses, cut taxes, increase education opportunities, lower the cost of healthcare, further criminal justice reform, make Juneteenth a National Holiday, prosecute the KKK and ANTIFA as terrorist organizations, and make lynching a national hate crime.”

And this is coming from a racist.

At a time when racial division is at its highest point in recent history due to a racially-hostile environment created by the overtly racist Trump regime, one thing is crystal clear: Blacks must not be ignored.

For too long, too many cities, like Baltimore, have totally ignored their Black constituents. Schools in the Black community are being closed left and right by Black bureaucrats. So, too, are recreation centers. What comes after that is a plethora of excuses and meager justifications from consistently elected Black elected officials.

Meanwhile, Black children in Baltimore are getting an inferior education and the mainstream media is having a field day talking about the burgeoning number of murders in Baltimore. What is never discussed is the systematic racism that consistently leaves Baltimore’s Black community in a downward spiral. One would figure that systemic racism would have been addressed in a city like Baltimore, home to the world-remown Johns Hopkins Hospital.

But, once again, common sense ain’t that common! Or, those who hold the reigns of power like things just the way they are. Whatever the case, Baltimore’s Black community is quietly being decimated.

Clearly, this last election brought out the worst in this country. It was ugly, profane and violent. Women were heavily disrespected. In Michigan, Trump told a crowd of supporters that he was focused on getting their “husbands back to work”. Hey, Don! Women work, too!

And just over the weekend, a Black woman was knocked out cold by a “Rude Boy”. There have also been reports where whites have hit the canvas – well, actually the sidewalk, too. So, are we headed for Civil War?

I don’t know all of the answers, but I do know that it is time to get this country back on track. I’ll tell you another thing: The rest of the world is paying close attention. You see, the US is the first to put Tiananmen Square on blast and right up front when it comes to women’s rights in the Middle East, but here at home, we are still struggling with America’s original sin.

In any event, Biden-Harris have a lot of healing to do. While China probably hates the new leadership in the US because its power will likely be checked, we have bridges to re-build in the Middle East, including Jerusalem and Iran, as well as Europe.

In a TIME interview, the European Union’s Vice President and foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell stated, “You will never rewind history.” To say the least, some relationships are going to take longer to heal than others. Trump’s irrational and reckless political behavior has put America in a very bad light abroad.

Further, Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell will be another one to watch.

And so, the real work begins now for the Democrats and the Republicans in Washington. It is time they get their acts together because the entire world – from Europe to Asia to Africa – is watching not what we say, but what we do. And right now, it’s not looking good. The world leader suffering more from COVID than anybody else? Whew! Not a good look, leader! We have a lot of work to do in a short period of time.

Time to ante up, America!
