(BALTIMORE – October 23, 2020) – Sandtown’s latest pride and joy is the new version of the “Wall of Pride”, located at the playground at Carey and Cumberland. The last rendition was done by the late artist Pontella Mason. However, it was time for a re-do. So, the City of Baltimore leaped into action.
Mural Masters, Inc. (www.muralmastersinc.com) was commissioned to serve as the project manager. According to the lead project manager, Shawn James, “The last mural was in rough shape.” He added, “The mortar was falling apart and the paint was flaky.”
Ernest Shaw was the lead artist. Shaw has a solid reputation in the art community. Also on the project was artist Michelle Santos, a former Mason student, as well as Debra Mason, Pontella’s wife.
