Kweisi Mfume Wins Congressional Seat in Special Maryland Election to Replace Cummings

(BALTIMORE – April 29, 2020) – Kweisi Mfume cruised to victory over newcomer Republican candidate Kimberly Klacik last night in the special election to replace the late Congressman Elijah Cummings, who passed recently. This was a mostly mail-in election with only three polling stations as a result of COVID-19. The polling stations were very active, despite the current pandemic.

Mfume, the former Congressman prior to Cummings and the former CEO of the NAACP, will serve out the rest of Cummings’ term, which ends in January 2021. He will also run as the incumbent in Maryland’s June primary to be the nominee for a full-term in November.
