Hogan For Governor Announces Pastors For Hogan Coalition

36 Pastors From Across Maryland Join Public And Private Sector Unions, 53 Democratic Leaders Endorsing Hogan For Re-Election

(ANNAPOLIS, MD – October 2, 2018) –  Hogan for Governor yesterday announced the Pastors for Hogan Coalition. The endorsement of Governor Hogan by 36 pastors highlights the strong support he has from the faith community. This adds to the historic level of support for Governor Hogan from a coalition of current and former Democratic leaders, public sector and private sector unions, business groups, and community leaders.

“The gubernatorial leadership of Governor Hogan for our great state has been, and continues to be, insightful, thoughtful, and respectful,” said Reverend Dr. Harold Carter, Jr of the New Shiloh Baptist Church. “His administration has been one of inclusivity and stability. We are the better for what he, along with Lt. Gov. Rutherford, bring to the table.”

“I’m supporting Governor Hogan because Maryland needs to continue the progress we’ve made over the last four years,” said Anthony Maclin, pastor of the Sanctuary Church at Kingdom Square. “This governor has brought people together, reaching across political lines for the betterment of the people of the great state of Maryland.”

“Governor Hogan is a man who is guided by his faith in God and recognizes that he has an obligation to be fair to all Marylanders, so much so that he directed state employees to treat every day like it is your last opportunity to serve Maryland’s citizens,” said Reverend Richard Mosley of the Road to Damascus Ministries.

“The Hogan/Rutherford team has proven to be thoughtful leaders,” said Dr. Alvin Hathaway, Sr, reverend of the Union Baptist Church. “I’ve found them willing to listen, debate and collaborate. These are the skills needed in this highly partisan climate. Together we are planning major changes in the West Baltimore Community I serve.”

“I am honored to express my sincere support for Governor Hogan & Lt. Governor Rutherford,” said Reverend Dr. Calvin Baltimore of the Peoples Community Church. “These men are giving Maryland stellar leadership. I and other Minister’s and friends will be supporting these great men for re-election.”

“Governor Hogan is the right choice for Maryland. He has my full support,” said Pastor Darryl Gould of the Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church.

During his first term, Governor Hogan has maintained a commitment to building and re-building communities. Over the last four years, the governor has provided a record $25 billion for K-12 education, including $3.8 billion for Baltimore City. The governor has also made boosting accountability in Maryland’s local school systems a top priority, recently signing an executive order creating a new Office of Education Accountability. The governor has also invested in transportation infrastructure projects throughout Maryland, with nearly 1,000 projects under construction across the state, totaling $9 billion currently in progress. Governor Hogan has also been responsive to community concerns, while focusing on economic development throughout Maryland, with more people working in the state than anytime in Maryland’s history.

The Hogan-Rutherford administration has also taken strong action and spoken out against hatred and divisiveness in Maryland. This past year the governor allocated funds to improve security at schools at risk of hate crimes, he enacted legislation strengthening hate crime laws, and has repeatedly denounced racist and bigoted actions and rallies throughout the region.

“These pastors are pillars of their communities and it is a privilege and an honor to receive their support,” said Governor Hogan. “I have been grateful to receive their wisdom and moral guidance during my first term. I look forward to working with them as we continue changing Maryland for the better.”

“It is a tremendous honor to receive the endorsement of so many leaders in Maryland’s faith community,” said Lt. Governor Rutherford. “Our administration has made building strong communities throughout Maryland a top priority, and these pastors have been vital allies in that effort.”
