BALTIMORE BREW: Omissions in audio and video evidence undermine Suiter suicide conclusion

(BALTIMORE – September 2, 2018) – Last week, the Independent Review Board (IRB) concluded that Detective Sean Suiter ended his own life by shooting himself in a vacant lot on Bennett Place on November 15, 2017.

The panel’s report provides a timeline of events that relies heavily on the testimony of Baltimore Police Department (BPD) witnesses, especially on Suiter’s partner of that day, David J. Bomenka.

A 10-year veteran of the force earning $98,000 a year, Bomenka is depicted in the report as a reliable witness, with one major exception:

“Detective Bomenka provided varying accounts of Suiter’s position when first observed: falling, just finishing a collapse to the ground, or fallen to the ground,” the report notes. “In one account, Detective Bomenka stated he heard shots after he saw Suiter down or falling.” READ IN FULL
