Meeting of Historic Pennsylvania Ave. Collaborative Held

(BALTIMORE – August 16, 2018) – A meeting of Central West Baltimore leaders was convened this evening at the Harris-Marcus Center at 1947 Pennsylvania Avenue. The meeting included community, political and business leaders who live/work in the vicinity of Historic Pennsylvania Avenue.

This thoroughfare is a major economic/commercial corridor in West Baltimore and has been discussed many times in the past with very few results – especially since 1999. That’s the last time Baltimore City put a heck of a lot of attention on ‘the Avenue’, namely the efforts surrounding the renovation and rebirth of the former Lafayette Market (The Avenue Market). Back then, those were the last days of Baltimore’s first elected African American Mayor, Kurt L. Schmoke.

With Taiwan Rice convening the first meeting of these leaders in quite some time, the purpose was made clear: It was not to reinvent the wheel. Instead, it is more like reinvigorating a wheel that was made a long time ago.

A key issue for this group is information-sharing.

Stay-tuned to for details about the next meeting which will be scheduled for some time in September.
