Baltimore born and raised, Dr. Johnny Graham is an instrumental leader and renaissance man. Dr. Graham is an assistant professor in the Marketing Department at Howard University, where he teaches courses on marketing principles, data analytics, and brand management. He also conducts research on the co-creation of brands, digital marketing, and the merging of marketing communications with culture.
He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration, with a specialization in Marketing, from Temple University’s Fox School of Business, and earned his undergraduate and MBA degrees from the University of Maryland-College Park’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. Graham not only values education for himself, but also for the youth in his community.
Hence, he is the co-founder and chair of the Our D.R.E.A.M. Foundation, a non-profit organization which teaches principles of entrepreneurship to youth in the State of Maryland. The foundation’s cornerstone program, the Y.E.S. Program, is a free summer entrepreneurship camp for Baltimore high school students. Since its start in 2015, the Y.E.S. program has educated students from over 20 different high schools in the Baltimore region. Past students have described the program as “fun, life and mindset-changing” and “essential to all young entrepreneurs”.
Dr. Graham also has professional experience in consulting startups and small-businesses, and has given several invited talks on marketing strategy, branding, and entrepreneurship for various government agencies and organizations. Aside from these endeavors, Graham is also an accomplished jazz musician and performer, through his Follow the Groove Productions, LLC imprint.
The Y.E.S. (Youth Entrepreneurship Startup) Program is back again to accept its 4th cohort of future business leaders this summer!
The YES Program, an entrepreneurship camp for Baltimore youth, introduces students to fundamental concepts of business through various lectures, interactive activities and competitions, along with guest talks and mentorship from local entrepreneurs. The program culminates in a business pitch competition, where students present their own original business ideas to a panel of judges in order to receive startup funding, along with other awards and prizes.
This year’s program will be a full five weeks (June 25th-July 27th). Also, as a part of this year’s program, students will be paid for participation through YouthWorks. Students receive complimentary lunch throughout the program. This year’s program is in partnership with the Baltimore City Mayor’s Office and the Mayor’s Teen Biz Challenge, an initiative that was started last year.
Students applying to the program must complete both the Youthworks application process and YES Program Application by MARCH 2nd. To apply and for more information visit www.thisisourdream.org/yes2018. Graduating seniors can participate. For any questions about program participation, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
