Who is Germaine?

Germaine Bolds-Leftridge is the founder and president of GBL Sales, Inc.  The company that she founded is one of the leading Manufacturers’ Representative firms in the country.  The company’s primary focus is on the ethnic haircare and beauty aids industry in the Northeastern and Southeastern regions.

GBL Sales opened its doors on March 1, 1990 in Columbia, Md. From that beginning, Germaine has established a long and successful track record of sales achievement over the 20-plus years that she has been in business.  Germaine has a demonstrated ability to build strong business relationships with the decision makers in the industry.  She has an innate ability to identify issues and opportunities in the marketplace, analyze specific situations from a sound business perspective and, then, develop and implement strategically sound marketing plans designed to maximize the sales of her clients’ products.   Her high level of business acumen is evidenced by the fact that GBL Sales, Inc. has always met or exceeded the sales and marketing goals of her clients!

As president, Germaine takes personal responsibility for delivering exceptional service and ensuring that her clients meet their sales and marketing objectives. With more than 30 years of experience, she completely understands the industry along with the challenges and opportunities that are inherent within it.  Her longevity of success sits on a strong foundation that was forged at the entry level of the industry.

Germaine began her career in the hair care and beauty aids industry in 1984. She began working as a merchandiser for Soft Sheen Products. She did so well that, within two years, she was recruited by and promoted to a sales representative position by Sales Impressions, a brokerage firm located on the eastern seaboard. Her track record of success continued to build and did not go unnoticed by companies in the industry who are always looking for talented people to assist them in moving the sales of their products upward. In 1988, one such company was Worlds of Curls.

World of Curls recruited Germaine and promoted her to the Northeast/Southeastern Regional Sales Manager position.  Germaine’s new duties included managing the manufacturer’s representatives contracted by World of Curls, implementing and overseeing the marketing programs in the retail accounts, submitting sales reports, overseeing and supporting the merchandizing activities in her region and identifying and resolving issues as they arose.  It was always Germaine’s dream to own and operate her own business.  In March1990 that dream was realized.

Germaine was given the opportunity to “become her own boss” when Luster Products Company decided to expand their business to the Mid-Atlantic Region.  With Luster Products as her first and, at the time, only client, GBL Sales, Inc. was born.  Her excellent organizing skills came in handy as she built her sales and marketing team from the ground up.  Her experience and relationship building skills began to deliver dividends in short order.

GBL Sales, through Germaine’s leadership, established a process of doing business that has become the benchmark of her success.  She, along with her team, became personally involved in every phase of the client’s selling process.  This created a very positive brand building experience.  Although Luster had an established line of products, as a growing enterprise, they maintained a robust product pipeline.  As Luster introduced new products, GBL Sales was instrumental in successfully managing product launches for them.  As a result of her hands-on approach and her relationship building skills, Luster products credited a 39% increase in sales in Dollar General Chain Accounts to GBL Sales’ performance as their representative. This achievement soon got the attention of other leading companies in the ethnic haircare and beauty aid industry.

GBL Sales’ list of clients began to grow quickly.  It companies such as Alikay Naturals, Ambi Skincare, Biocare Laboratories, Dermisa Products, Luster Products, Inc., Nouritress, ORS, Oyin Handmade Products, Reshma Femme, Summit Laboratories, and Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Mielle Organics, The Make-Up Bullet among others. From a start-up enterprise with zero sales to a major player in just sixteen years, Organic Root Stimulator was sold for over $130 million dollars!  GBL Sales is proud to have been, and continue to be, a major factor in that company’s growth from its inception.  A highly successful track record is usually followed by recognition of accomplishment.

GBL Sales’ accomplishment has garnered many awards over the years. In 2006, Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele presented GBL Sales with Maryland’s Top 100 Minority Business Enterprises Award. In 2010, the company was recognized as Manufacture Representative of the Year by the American Health and Beauty Aids Institute (AHBAI).  In August, 2012, GBL Sales, Inc. earned the AHBAI Associate Member of the Year Award.  Recently, Germaine was named as one of the Power Brokers….  There have been many awards and recognition that are too numerous to name.

Germaine earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Morgan State University in 1981.  An avid golfer, Germaine is also an active member of The Peoples’ Community Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Md. a past president and Lifetime Active Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and a proud member of The Links organization.  To her family and friends, alike, Germaine has always been known as a person with a huge heart.  She loves to give and is very generous with her time, talents and treasure.  In March, 2012, Germaine founded The Leftridge Family Foundation.  This non-profit organization, of which she serves as Chairperson of the Board, raises money to benefit the education of under-privileged and at-risk minority boys. The Foundation, which carries the motto “Giving Is in Our DNA,” currently sponsors The Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy for Boys in Baltimore, Md.  In 2017, Germaine received the Community Game Changer Award from Café Mocha Salute to Her.

She enjoys spending time with her husband of thirty-two years, Douglas.  Germaine and her husband are blessed with a daughter, who is a pharmacist, and a son who is an exceptional student-athlete and two very active grandsons.

Germaine Bolds-Leftridge’s journey is just beginning.  She is always preparing herself and her company for the next level.  That being said, her next venture is her trade show …the Ubiquitous Beauty| Hair| Health Expo.  This is an amazing and comprehensive trade show, where her guests leave the show with amazing products and a healthier inner spirit.  There is no doubt that, if past is prologue this new venture will be an awesome journey.
