(BALTIMORE – August 24, 2016) – This evening at 6 p.m. on the campus of Morgan State University (MSU), hundreds of university students will be joined on the Academic Quad by administrators, faculty, staff and members of the community for a special unity rally. The rally – “MSUnified” – is an inaugural initiative spurred by university student leaders to address a number of national issues that may be weighing heavy on the minds students as they begin a new academic year.
From community violence to the horrific tragedies of unarmed black men and women being killed at the hands of law enforcement, to the massacre of LGBTQ patrons at Pulse Night Club, and the continuous rhetoric of Islamophobia, there has been a lot of troubling things for young people to digest and comprehend. MSUnified will present the Morgan Community with an opportunity to embrace peace, diversity, inclusion and understanding. It also will set the stage for ongoing open and honest discussion.
The event will feature speakers from the university’s administration along with members of the LGBTQ and Islamic communities. There also will be special performances and the formation of a unity circle.
