(ATLANTA – June 21, 2016) – Like The River Salon and thirteen other honorees will receive the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Award tomorrow night. Tomorrow’s Black Wall Street ATL is a part of the ORIGINAL Black Wall Street SERIES, founded in Washington, D.C. in 2011. It celebrates black entrepreneurs and professionals as well as the people who support them regardless of race.
To date, hundreds have been recognized in New York, Baltimore, D.C., Atlanta, and New Orleans. These awards are presented in memory of Tulsa’s Black Wall Street that was destroyed in the Race Riot of 1921.
Black Wall Street in Tulsa was the most accomplished in the nation and boasted more than 600 businesses, 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores, 2 movie theatres, 6 private airplanes, a bank, a hospital, a post office, schools, libraries, law offices and a bus system.
