(BALTIMORE – February 10, 2016) – The emcee for tonight’s Penn-North Unity in the Community Awards (6-8pm, 2520 Pennsylvania Avenue) is Kyana Graham, the internationally-versed jazz singer who was touring in Paris just before the recent terrorist attack.
With a commanding presence, Kyana Graham gives audiences a new sound that feels unlike any other experience. With soft warm vibes, her velvety tone croons and delights every time. Influenced by the likes of Marvin Gaye, Anita Baker and Mary J. Blige, music became the first love and pursuit of this multi talented young artist. Learning various musical instruments and studying many forms of dance were early outlets of her creative expression. She was vocally trained in Washington, D.C. , her birthplace, under the teachings of premiere musicians of The Washington Performing Arts Society (WPAS).
As a performing member of WPAS, Kyana sang for Washington’s Elite, performing annually at the Kennedy Center’ Honor’s Ball, and other great venues like the Mall on Washington for Independence Day. In 2013, to honor her father’ legacy, she formed a band of top musicians, named them 4West, and performs throughout the DMV regularly. Whether solo, or sharing the stage with Grammy winners, Ms. Graham transmutes what she interprets from the music in that moment, to the audience with passion and a precise objective, to make it feel good to the soul.
