(BALTIMORE – January 15, 2016) – The ORIGINAL Black Wall Street SERIES *NYC *MD *DC *ATL *NOLA, founded in Washington, D.C. in 2011, celebrates black entrepreneurs and professionals as well as the people who support them regardless of race.
Honorees receive the coveted Joe Manns Black Wall Street Award, named after Maryland businessman Joe Manns, a person who has a heart for people.
The awards were designed in memory of Black Wall Street in Tulsa, which was bombed and burned to the ground in 1921. Over 600 black businesses were lost. Our aim is to encourage entrepreneurship as it is a sure path to self-empowerment. We seek to encourage others to very much invest in and support black businesses, too. Truly, it is a win-win situation.
Nationally, African Americans garner a trillion dollars in annual disposable income. Logic and common sense suggest we direct more of those funds to supporting black businesses. Repeatedly, we have been witness to the many talented black businesses across America.
In the coming weeks, we will be headed to Brooklyn, New York and Atlanta. If you have a nomination or would like to become a sponsor, contact our business manager, Angela Hardy, at 443.622.5026.
Bmorenews Publisher Doni Glover said that he’d love to see the series touch some new cities, including Wilmington, Delaware and Richmond, Virginia.
