Black Wall Street RICHMOND to Recognize Janelle Harris, May 17th (6 pm), Maple Bourbon

(RICHMOND – April 22, 2019) – Bmorenews.com, REAL Radio and partners are proud to announce the expansion of The ORIGINAL Black Wall Street SERIES *NYC *MD *DC *ATL *NOLA to Richmond, Virginia.

According to founder Doni Glover, “We are particularly proud to get this event on the calendar because Richmond is the home of a woman we absolutely adore, the iconic Maggie Lena Walker. She was the first woman of any race to charter a bank in the United States.” He added, “Many thanks to our organizers in Richmond, particularly Teresa Davis, James Pope and Janelle Harris.”

While many people have heard about Tulsa’s Black Wall Street, Richmond had a Black Wall Street – or black business district – as well. It was named Jackson Ward and featured a number of businesses owned by African Americans, including Walker’s bank.

Hence, on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 6 pm, the Black Wall Street Series expands southward to a very fine establishment, Maple Bourbon. Honorees include Janelle Harris a.k.a. “The Parallelist”. She is an actress, playwright, host, motivational speaker and published author of “The Ultimate WAIT Loss Plan”.

Janelle believes that God loves everyone and longs to commune with His people and is therefore always speaking.  Janelle has over 13 years of experience in stage performance and most recently landed a non-speaking role in the major motion film, “Harriet”, set to be released in the fall of 2019.

Acting alongside Cynthia Enrivo and Janelle Mone, Janelle also has over 10 years of experience in creative business marketing where she specializes in assisting businesses in developing their voice and keeping their finger on the pulse of their consumer. She has also hosted her own television show, “IT’S URCUE”, on Comcast television where she platformed musicians and spoken word artists across RVA and used those forms of entertainment to shed light on panel discussions about relationships and healthy living. Encouraging others to see hope and God’s Love in any and everything, and making Him relatable to all is the backdrop of her life’s work.

According to Lee Vaughan, Director of the Black Wall Street Series, “This is yet another example of everyday people making spectacular strides in the realm of business.” He continued, “I am so proud to be a part of this expanding effort to highlight the men and women in our community who have chosen entrepreneurship as a viable option.”

So, come out and join us as we celebrate black entrepreneurs and professionals as well as the people who support them regardless of race in the hometown of Maggie Walker. Honorees will be presented with the Joe Manns Black Wall Street Award. We do this in honor of the 600 black businesses bombed and burned to the ground May 31-June 1, 1921 in Tulsa. Our aim is to encourage entrepreneurship in the African American community.

To date, Bmorenews has recognized over 1,400 individuals in 5 US cities: New York, Baltimore, Washington, Atlanta and New Orleans.
